Zachary Bishop Root is plying his trade as a sophomore pitcher for the East Carolina Pirates baseball team. Prior to starting his college baseball career, Perfect Game ranked him as the 31st ranked recruit and 26th best left-handed pitcher from Florida. They also chose him as the 178th overall prospect on the national level.
Notable for his quick arm and fastballs around 96mph, Zach Root claimed 54 strikeouts in 53.2 innings 20 games as a freshman in 2023. He was included in the ACC All-Freshman team because of his pitching skills in 2023. Outside of college baseball, Zach Root had also displayed his pitching skills at the Valley League (VALL) as a member of the Charlottesville Tom Sox and racked up 22 strikeouts in 18.0 innings in summer of 2023.

Vance Root is the father of Zach Root. He has helped his son improve his hitting and they practiced together when he was in high school. Zach Root revealed (via News Press) that he got home from practice every day, did his homework, ate and waited for his father to get back. When Vance Root got back home, they would practice together outside for 30-45 minutes. He stated that he learnt not to take too many swings from the practice. He also revealed that they would practice every night so that he didnt get tired or become lazy.
