Wallace went to Richardson High School in his hometown Richardson, Texas, and averaged 19.9 points, 7.4 rebounds, and 6.1 assists per game in his senior year. He was honored as Gatorade Basketball Player of the Year for Texas and was also honored as The Dallas Morning News Boys Basketball Player of the Year.
Wallace was hailed as a five-star recruit player and committed to play college basketball for the Kentucky Wildcats of the Southeastern Conference (SEC), In his freshman year there Wallace Started 32 games for the Wildcats and averaged 11.7 points, 3.7 rebounds, 4.3 assists, and 2.0 steals per game and ranked second among the assist leader in the league. Wallace had 18 double-figure scoring games, including four of 20-plus that year. After his freshman year, Wallace forewent his remaining college eligibility and declared for the 2023 NBA draft where he was selected as the 10th overall pick by the Oklahoma City Thunder. The 2003-born Wallace made his rookie debut on opening night against the Chicago Bulls and went a perfect 5-of-5 from the field, including 3-of-3 from behind the arc, and scored 13 points on his debut.
