Karl-Anthony Towns is a Dominican-American basketball player playing for the Minnesota Timberwolves of the NBA. Having spent most of his childhood in New Jersey, Anthony-Towns developed a strong liking for basketball early on. He attended St. Joseph’s High School and led the team to win the state championship in his freshman year, earning him the position of ESPN’s top 25 high school players in the country. In his sophomore year, Towns committed to play for the Dominican Republic men’s national basketball team.

Post-high school career, Towns played one season with Kentucky where he played in a unique ‘platoon’ system that limited the minutes for each player. Subsequently, Towns only averaged 10.3 points and 6.7 rebounds in 21.1 minutes per game. He had a quiet season but turned many heads in the NCAA tourney convincing scouts he will be a great defensive and offensive center. Towns declared for the NBA draft after one season with Kentucky.

In the 2015 NBA draft, Towns was picked by the Minnesota Timberwolves with the first overall pick. He had a great rookie season, averaging 16.4 points and 10.4 rebounds winning the Rookie of the Year. Soon after, Towns became acclimated to the league and started to put up monster numbers. In 2017, he had his first all-star appearance and has been a consistent all-star since then. He has been the face of the Timberwolves franchise for nine years now and along with Anthony Edwards, Towns has one goal: to win an NBA championship.

At the end of the 2023/24 NBA season, Karl-Anthony Towns has had 13 40-point games. While he is a center, his shooting ability and ball-handling skills have caught the eyes of many and have led them to call him ‘arguably the best shooting big man of all time’. Towns is the only center in NBA history to win a three-point contest at All-Star weekend which he did in 2022.

The last time Karl-Anthony Towns scored more than 40 points in a game was in January 2024. He exploded on offense against the Charlotte Hornets, putting up a career-high and franchise-record 62 points. Towns scored 44 of his points in the first half and made eight straight 3-pointers to start the night. His 44 points were the most scored in the first half since the 1996-97 NBA season. Towns finished with 62 points, eight rebounds, and two assists, shooting 21-of-35 from the field, 10-of-15 from the 3-point line, and 10-of-14 from the free throw line. He became the first player in league history to have at least 10 made 3-pointers, 2-pointers, and free throws in the same game. Such amazing performances show that Towns can have more 40-point games in his future career with an all-around offensive game.
