Mason Plumlee is a 33-year-old veteran center for the Los Angeles Clippers in the NBA. He played four years of college basketball for the Duke Blue Devils before getting drafted 22nd overall by the Brooklyn Nets in the 2013 NBA Draft.
The Duke product is a solid high energy player who has been in the league for 11 seasons and has played for the Brooklyn Nets, Portland Trail Blazers, Denver Nuggets, Detroit Pistons, and Charlotte Hornets before finally coming to the Los Angeles Clippers in 2023, spending his whole career either as a starter or the first or second player coming off the bench.
Last season (2022-23), Plumlee started in all the games (56) with the Hornets and acted as a traditional post player for the team and led the team defensively, averaging career-high 12.2 points, 9.7 rebounds, and 3.7 assists per contest on shooting 66.9% from the field but has not made a single three-pointer the whole season. His field goal percentage was second highest in the league behind Nic Claxton.
In the 2023 free agency market, the free agent Mason Plumlee inked a one-year deal for around $5 million with the Los Angeles Clippers.
Plumlee has also donned the American National Team color multiple times, the latest being in the 2014 FIBA World Cup in Spain where the team snagged the Gold medal after defeating Serbia.
Mason Plumlee trade
As per Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, in the mid-season trade the Veteran center Mason Plumlee was traded to the Los Angeles Clippers in exchange for guard Reggie Jackson, a 2028 second-round pick, and cash considerations from the Charlotte Hornets.
The addition of Plumlee has added more depth and strengthened the Clippers’ roster. He can be a perfect ideal backup for center Ivica Zubac who is the only true center that the team had. Additionally, the 33-year-old can also create shots at the offensive end and can be a game changer at the crucial phases.
So far, Plumlee has been in a reserve role for the Clippers and has been a handful in grabbing rebounds. In the 6 games appeared in, he averaged 5.0 points, and 5.5 rebounds in an average playing time of 17.0 minutes. However, the center has been ruled out as he suffered from an MCL sprain and could miss months this season.
