Marshall moved to Maryland at the age of 9 and attended Takoma Academy before transferring to Eleanor Roosevelt High School, where he played for his sophomore and senior seasons. As a senior, he averaged 17 points, 9 rebounds, and 4 assists. Marshall then enrolled at Hargrave Military Academy to play as a postgraduate student for the 2016-17 season, where he averaged 20.7 points and 11.4 rebounds per game. In 2017, he enrolled at Xavier College and joined the Xavier Musketeers men’s basketball team. As a Musketeer, he played 99 games, starting in 82 of them, and averaged 12.9 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 3.0 assists per game. He scored a total of 1,277 points during his college career, ranking him 28th on Xavier’s all-time scoring list. Marshall was named First Team All-Big East in 2020.

Marshall went undrafted in the 2020 NBA draft but signed a two-way contract with the New Orleans Pelicans. He recorded a career-high 24 points in a game against the Dallas Mavericks on January 7, 2023. Marshall later signed a three-year contract with the Dallas Mavericks on July 6, 2024. As of November 21, 2024, he has played 245 NBA games, scoring 1,859 points, grabbing 860 rebounds, and dishing out 510 assists.
