The NBA Cup has seen a few surprises this season, none more than Orlando Magic's Franz Wagner being named the leading candidate for the MVP title. He has been placed above stars like Golden State Warriors four-time NBA champion Stephen Curry and OKC Thunder star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.

Wagner has been instrumental in the Orlando Magic's success, particularly in Paolo Banchero's absence.

Fans on X had kind words for the German forward, including one fan who took a jibe at Indiana Pacers' Tyrese Haliburton.

"He’s been carrying Orlando without Banchero he’s definitely top 3 right now," another fan added.
"Best player in the league?" a fan wrote.

Franz Wagner's impressive stats in the Cup include averages of 30.7 points, nine rebounds and 6.3 assists per game. In his last game against the Brooklyn Nets, Wagner showcased his versatility, with 29 points, eight rebounds, and eight assists.

Since Banchero's injury in October, the German has stepped up, posting averages of 25.4 points, 6.5 assists, 5.9 rebounds and two steals per game across 16 games. His performance has not only made the Magic a threat, but it has also positioned him as an All-Star contender.

Franz Wagner this season, has been consistent on the offensive and defensive ends. The Magic has won 11 of their last 12 games, boasting the largest point differential in the league at +60 during the Cup play.

With Wagner leading the line, the Magic have a strong chance of advancing further in the tournament. They face the Brooklyn Nets again on Sunday and close out the NBA Cup group stage with a visit to Madison Square Garden to face the New York Knicks.

With the Magic sitting third in the Eastern Conference standings, they have a strong core to establish dominance in the East.
