The Emirates NBA Cup 2024, formerly called the ‘NBA In-Season Tournament’ is officially underway. This second edition of the Emirates NBA Cup is again featuring early-season

NBA basketball action that has fans on the edge of their seats. All 30 NBA teams are yet again divided into 3 groups per conference as they battle it out in intense, high-stakes matchups. The reigning NBA Cup champions, the Los Angeles Lakers, along with the 2024 NBA champions, the Boston Celtics, and the 2023 NBA champions, the Denver Nuggets, are once again among the favorites for the 2024-25 season. Additionally, teams like the Golden State Warriors and Cleveland Cavaliers, who have been on hot streaks to start the 2024/25 season, are also expected to be strong contenders for the Emirates NBA Cup 2024.

However, surprises are bound to happen. Just last season Indiana Pacers shocked the Eastern Conference heavyweights—the Boston Celtics and Milwaukee Bucks—to reach the 2023 NBA Cup final in Las Vegas. The unpredictable nature of the NBA ensures that underdog teams can make an impact and challenge the established contenders. The 2024 NBA Cup matches again feature vibrant court designs and a format that amps up the competitiveness of the early season. NBA fans are bound to be glued to the action as their teams chase not only regular-season glory but also the prestige of becoming the next NBA Cup champions.

Day 1, November 12th, 2024

The 2024 Emirates NBA Cup kicked off with a bang as the Atlanta Hawks pulled off a huge upset, defeating the reigning NBA champions, the Boston Celtics, at TD Garden. Despite missing their star player, Trae Young, the Hawks led by youngsters Dyson Daniels and Jalen Johnson managed to win.

In another thrilling game, the Detroit Pistons stunned the Miami Heat in OT who were led by Tyler Herro as they were without Jimmy Butler yet again. The Pistons were led by a potent offensive attack as seven players reached double digits in scoring. The New York Knicks had an easy victory over Philadelphia 76ers whose superstar Joel Embiid struggled in his season debut. Meanwhile, the Milwaukee Bucks bounced back strongly with a win of their own over Toronto Raptors.

The Golden State Warriors hosted their former star Klay Thompson at Chase Center in an intense matchup against the Dallas Mavericks. Stephen Curry stole the show in the fourth quarter, pulling off a "night night" celebration after clutch buckets in a win for the Warriors. In other games, the Phoenix Suns triumphed over the Utah Jazz, while the Orlando Magic were able to beat the Charlotte Hornets, thanks to Franz Wagner's strong performance in Disney City.

The action-packed 2024 NBA Cup night was wrapped up with another shocker as the Portland Trail Blazers, led by Shaden Sharpe, handed the Minnesota Timberwolves a thumping loss.

Day 2, November 15th, 2024

To start things off on day 2 of NBA Cup 2024, the Miami Heat took care of the Indiana Pacers in a solid all-around performance as Bam Adebayo had a 30-point output and Kevin Love gave a vintage performance. Meanwhile Orlando Magic continued to surge, with Franz Wagner making a strong case for the All-Star team. The Detroit Pistons, led by Cade Cunningham, pulled off a clutch victory against the Toronto Raptors in Toronto.

The cross-town rivals Brooklyn Nets and New York Knicks were faced off in an exciting thriller. With just six seconds left, Jalen Brunson nailed a three-pointer to give the Knicks the lead, and then the former Net Mikal Bridges made a game-saving block to secure the win for the Knicks. Later in a classic matchup, the Los Angeles Lakers went up against the San Antonio Spurs, where LeBron James faced the new-age star, Victor Wembanyama. The game was close for three quarters, but the Lakers pulled away in the final frame to win.

Some games were more one-sided. In the East, the Atlanta Hawks easily handled the Washington Wizards, and the Cleveland Cavaliers breezed past the Chicago Bulls at home. Out West, the Houston Rockets dominated the Los Angeles Clippers, while the Oklahoma City Thunder took care of the KD-less Phoenix Suns with ease. The Golden State Warriors also built a big lead in the first three quarters against the Memphis Grizzlies, but Memphis made a strong push to reduce the deficit. Despite their efforts, the Warriors held on to win by five points at home.

The last game of the night Timberwolves vs Kings was a thrilling showdown, but the Minnesota Timberwolves withstood De'Aaron Fox’s franchise-record 60-point performance. In overtime, clutch buckets from Julius Randle and Anthony Edwards helped the Timberwolves seal the victory.

Day 3, November 19th, 2024

The Cleveland Cavaliers' perfect 15-0 start to the season was finally halted by the Boston Celtics at TD Garden in a heated East showdown. It was a close matchup, ultimately decided by the stellar defensive effort from Boston's backcourt duo of Jrue Holiday and Derrick White, who managed to contain Cavs All-Star Darius Garland to a rough 3-for-21 shooting performance.

The Brooklyn Nets survived a late rally by the Charlotte Hornets to secure a win at Barclays Center. Meanwhile, after losing two straight, the Denver Nuggets were playing their third consecutive game without Nikola Jokic, but they defeated the Memphis Grizzlies, who were also without their star Ja Morant. Jamal Murray and Michael Porter Jr. stepped up with great performances to lead the Nuggets to victory.

With Luka Doncic back in the lineup after missing a game, the Dallas Mavericks blew out the New Orleans Pelicans at home. Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Lakers also dominated the Utah Jazz as Lakers Rookie Dalton Knecht set an NBA record by tying the most three-pointers in a game by a rookie with 9 threes. Despite the Lakers holding a 22-point lead after three quarters, the Jazz rallied with a 43-27 run in the fourth. The Lakers only managed to win the game by 6 points as they failed to increase their point differential which is crucial in tiebreakers for the group standings. In the day's biggest shocker, the San Antonio Spurs, playing without Victor Wembanyama and Devin Vassell, stunned the Oklahoma City Thunder.
