Giannis Antetokounmpo makes major revelation about Bucks rookie’s $500,000 plan

Giannis Antetokounmpo is an incredibly driven athlete—it's how he won NBA MVP twice, Finals MVP, the 2021 title and more. During the 2024 Emirates NBA Cup, Antetokounmpo found a unique source of motivation.

In the post-game conference following the Milwaukee Bucks' 97-81 win over the Oklahoma City Thunder in the NBA Cup final, Antetokounmpo discussed how Bucks rookie Liam Robbins fueled the Greek Freak in this tournament.

"Some of my teammates got life-changing money," the Bucks' franchise player said. "We had this joke within the team about our two-way game Liam. I promised him from the first Cup game, I promised him we're gonna go all the way, and you're gonna get your house in Iowa."

Antetokounmpo explained that he understood the financial incentives of the NBA Cup as a primary driving force for his teammates to work hard in the tournament—even though he himself was in a better situation than most players in the league.

"The money does not matter to me. It never mattered," Giannis said. "But I understand that this is life-changing money to people. I'm happy that we're able to give that to a lot of players within our team. And not just players—coaching staff, physios [or physiotherapists], and people that helped us win this trophy."

As it turned out, Antetokounmpo was able to make good on his promise. Through his excellent play on both ends of the floor, the Bucks overcame the team currently reigning atop the Western Conference. Thanks to Antetokounmpo's 26-point, 19-rebound performance in the NBA Cup Final, Robbins now has around $500,000 more in his bank account for his real estate plans.

Giannis Antetokounmpo draws support from Serena Williams' husband

Just as Antetokounmpo expressed support for his teammate's life plans, he too received warm acknowledgment from a high-profile well-wisher.

Internet entrepreneur Alexis Ohanian, who is married to tennis great Serena Williams, was in attendance at the T-Mobile Arena to watch the Bucks and the Thunder duke it out. After Antetokounmpo was named NBA Cup MVP, Ohanian posted a story celebrating the Greek Freak's latest accomplishment:
