However, her most defining career shift occurred in 2015 when Simone took the bold step to transition from playing to officiating. Starting in the collegiate arena, she officiated games in the Mid-American Conference and the Horizon League. Soon, she started as an official member of NBA G League and worked for around 3 seasons in the same.

2019 was a hallmark year for Jelks as she was welcomed into the NBA as a non-staff official. Demonstrating an unmatched ability to manage games and a unique rapport with players and coaches, Simone officiated 34 regular-season games. Her hard work and consistent performances led to a well-deserved promotion to full-time status by December 2020. Throughout her NBA career, she showcased her expertise across multiple games, including 2 NBA regular seasons.

Beyond the whistle and the court, Jelks has also ventured into the literary world. For young women, girls, and budding referees, she exemplifies that with tenacity, perseverance, and following one's dreams, boundaries can be crossed and ceilings shattered.
