Tennessee is favored to win the national title as they have clinched the College World Series berth as the top seed team.

The 2024 Men's College World Series begins with an explosive doubleheader on Friday, June 14, at the Charles Schwab Field Omaha in Nebraska. ACC rivals North Carolina and Virginia square off in the first game at 2 p.m. ET. That will be followed by the clash between No. 1 seed Tennessee and eighth-ranked Florida State at 7 p.m ET.

College baseball teams North Carolina, Virginia, Tennessee and Florida State are slotted together in Bracket 1. Kentucky, NC State, Texas A&M and Florida are grouped in Bracket 2.

The Volunteers have justified their No. 1 ranking this season. They won the Southeastern Conference Eastern Division, SEC regular season, SEC tournament, Knoxville regional and Knoxville super regional crowns. That allowed them to gain their second consecutive trip to the CWS and seventh overall.

The Tar Heels, winners of the Atlantic Coast Conference Coastal Division, made it to their 12th CWS (and first since 2018). They topped the Chapel Hill Regional and swept West Virginia in two close games in the super regional.

The Seminoles annexed their 24th CWS appearance, their first in five years, by beating their regional and super regional opponents.

The Link Jarrett-coached squad beat Stetson (7-2) and UCF (5-2) to make the regional final. They dismantled the Knights in their regional final rematch, 12-4. The super-regional was easier for Florida State, trampling UConn 24-4 in Game 1 before edging the Huskies 10-8 in the second to gain the CWS berth.

Virginia, the 2015 national champions, made their seventh appearance in the CWS by going 5-0 in the regional and the super regional.

The Cavaliers edged Penn (4-2) and Mississippi State (5-4) in the first two rounds before defeating Mississippi State 9-2 in the regional final. Virginia then swept Kansas State 7-4 in the first game and 10-4 in the second to claim their third CWS trip in four years.

College World Series schedule for June 14

Game 1: North Carolina vs Virginia

North Carolina and Virginia seek to open the CWS with a win. Jason DeCaro will start for the Tar Heels six days after delivering his best start with the team. He allowed one run, two hits and two walks in 6 1/3 innings against West Virginia in Game 2 of their super regional series.

Virginia will counter with left-hander Evan Blanco, who is 8-3, with a 3.69 ERA in 92 2/3 innings. The lower-ranked Cavaliers will have a slight psychological edge. They beat the Tar Heels in the season series, winning two of the three games at Charlottesville in April.

Game 2: Tennessee vs Florida State

Tennessee opens its CWS stint against Florida State in a much-anticipated slugfest between two of the nation's high-powered offenses.

The Volunteers top the nation in home runs with 173 round-trippers. They have swept the regional, scoring 33 runs in three games. Their power surge continued in the super regional, scoring 31 more in the three-game series against Evansville to claim the CWS.

Tennessee is up against another high-scoring team in Florida State. The Seminoles claimed the Tallahassee Regional, winning over Stetson and UCF in the second round and the regional final.

In the super regional, Florida State set a scoring and margin of victory record in a 24-4 smashing of UConn in Game 1. In Game 2, they needed James Tibbs III's heroics to edge the Huskies, 10-8 in 12 innings.

Chris Stamos will start for Tennessee in the CWS opener. Stamos is 3-0 with a 4.02 ERA in 31 1/3 innings played for the Volunteers. Florida State will counter with ace Jamie Arnold, 11-3 with a 2.77 ERA.
