In the 2024 College World Series, Kentucky takes on Texas A&M on Monday night at the Charles Schwab Field Omaha in Nebraska for a semifinal seat.
The Wildcats are coming off a 5-4, 10-inning win over NC State Wolfpack. They are in the winner's bracket in this double-elimination college baseball tournament.
The first pitch is set at 7 p.m. ET. A win by Kentucky would give it a twice-to-beat advantage in the semifinals. But a loss would put it in a second-round duel with the winner of the NC State-Florida clash.
Kentucky Wildcats starting lineup for June 17
Kentucky coach Nick Mingione has yet to announce his starting pitcher for the game against Texas A&M. It will likely be Mason Moore or Dominic Niman. Moore has started in 17 games for the Wildcats and has a 9-3 record and 4.93 ERA this season. On the other hand, Niman has played 16 games with Kentucky and is 8-4 with a 6.24 ERA.
As for the batters, Mingione would opt for left-fielder Ryan Waldschmidt as his leadoff hitter. Waldschmidt is due for a bounce-back game as he went hitless in four at-bats in the previous game. Emilien Pitre would bat second for the Wildcats, as the second baseman went 1-for-3 with one run scored against NC State.
Catcher Devin Burkes is set to start as the third batter despite going 0-for-3 in his last game. Designated hitter Nick Lopez would possibly bat clean-up or fourth in the order. He went 1-for-5 with one RBI in the NC State game.
Mitchell Daly may likely bat fifth in the order for the Wildcats against Texas A&M unless Mingione tweaks his lineup in the last minute. The third baseman is coming off a 2-of-5 game with one home run, one RBI and one run. First baseman Ryan Nicholson would hit sixth in the batting order for Kentucky. Nicholson went 3-of-4 in his last game with two runs, one homer and one RBI.
Nolan McCarthy is set to bat seventh for the Wildcats. The centerfielder went 2-of-3 with one home run and two RBIs. Batting eighth would be James McCoy, who went hitless in three at-bats against NC State.
Shortstop Grant Smith will bat ninth in the order for Kentucky. Smith is coming off a 0-for-4 game against the Wolfpack and is looking to bounce back in the next game against the Texas A&M.
