College sports analyst Paul Finebaum has called out Jim Schlossnagle for "embarrassing" comments at a postgame press conference. Following the Texas A&M Aggies 6-5 Game 3 loss to the Tennessee Volunteers in the College World Series, Schlossnagle blasted a reporter for asking him about the job at Texas, which he was rumored for, and said he will remain the coach of the Aggies.
However, not even 24 hours later, Schlossnagle was named the head coach of the Longhorns baseball team. It came after he denied having an interest in the job and blasted a reporter for even asking about it.
So, following Jim Schlossnagle being introduced as the coach of the Longhorns, Finebaum spoke on his show and took aim at the coach.
"I've talked to great coaches, Hall of Fame coaches, some of the best of all time, and they always say when I have a plan if we win, and I have a plan, if we lose, you have to be cognizant of what you're going to communicate," Finebaum said. "His answer was embarrassing.
"All you have to say is listen, I'm we just walked off the field where we left our guts on that field, and all I care about tonight is my players. I mean, make a stand.
"Instead, he chastised the reporter. It was all about him. I left my family behind for this job, it's the last job I'll ever have, and look, 19 hours later, it's being reported by multiple outlets in Texas, but he's leaving."
Finebaum did make a good point that Schlossnagle should have handled the postgame media scrum better. He could have just said his focus was on the game and wasn't thinking about any job after losing the College World Series.
