Jim Schlossnagle is leaving College Station for Austin to coach the Aggies' state rivals, the Texas Longhorns.

After losing to Tennessee in Game 3 of the College World Series, Schlossnagle announced in a post-game press conference that he "took the job at Texas A&M to never take another job again" which signified his intent to stay.

However, things changed when less than 24 hours later, Texas A&M Athletics director Trev Alberts announced the coach's decision to leave the team.

Alberts wished Schlossnagle the best of luck as the latter enters this new chapter of his coaching career.

Alberts added, "We will find a great leader and excellent coach to head up this proud Aggie baseball program."

Jim Schlossnagle's Texas A&M career

After being named head coach on June 2021, Schlossnagle spent three seasons with the Aggies where they consistently made the NCAA baseball tournament.

In his first season, he was able to lead them to an SEC West Division title and the College World Series—a feat that he was unable to replicate in 2023 when the Aggies fell short during the Regionals phase of the tourney. This year, he carried them all the way to their first College World Series finals.

As he moves to his third Texas school, his overall Texas A&M record now stands at 135-62. He previously coached the TCU Horned Frogs from 2024 to 2021.
