The Florida Gators were eliminated from the College World Series after losing 6-0 against the Texas A&M Aggies later on Wednesday. Despite Florida's postseason exit, college baseball fans praised Kevin O'Sullivan's team for putting together a strong push for the CWS finals.
On X, several fans credited the Gators for reaching the College World Series in Omaha this year, despite a challenging regular season.
"Tremendous run, shut a lot of people up," one tweeted.
"Standard is Omaha. You reached it. Thank you!," wrote another.
"Hold your heads high, men. You made it in to the postseason and had a damn good run. Be proud of that," a user commented.
Although the Florida Gators were the lowest-ranked team in the CWS, one user pointed out that they made it to the final four while beating some of the best teams in the country.
"Man we had a hell of a run. At least we made the final 4," one tweeted.
Another fan suggested that the Florida Gators peaked with their remarkable run at the right team in this year's postseason.
"Good run sparked at the last moment," one wrote.
While the Gators' CWS run has now ended, Texas A&M will square off against Tennessee in a best-of-three series for the CWS title, starting from Saturday onward.
Kevin O'Sullivan speaks after Florida Gators' elimination from College World Series
In his post-game press conference, Florida Gators coach Kevin O'Sullivan congratulated Texas A&M on reaching the CWS finals. He also acknowledged his team's efforts despite being disappointed at missing out in the final stretch of the postseason.
“First of all, congratulations to Texas A&M and Tennessee for moving on to the final three games here — for the final series there," O'Sullivan said.
"But we had a terrific year. There’s been a lot of ups and downs. Our players persevered through a lot of different tough moments. Awfully proud of our team. But this time of year it’s difficult. It’s really hard to put into words. It’s like you’re going full speed in a sprint and all of a sudden it just comes to an end just like that," O'Sullivan added.
Under O'Sullivan, Florida won the program's only College World Series title in 2017. The Gators finished as CWS runners-up last season and were close to reaching this year's CWS finals. O'Sullivan can now take a break from coaching in the offseason before returning to Florida next year for his 18th season.
