The Alabama Crimson Tide men's basketball team competes in the SEC. The team made its most recent appearance in the NCAA tournament in 2023, having participated in it 23 times overall. Under the leadership of head coach Nate Oats, Alabama won SEC titles in 2021 and 2023 and had the best season ever in 2023 as the top seed in the NCAA tournament.

The team briefly held the top spot in the country in 2003 under the direction of former coach Mark Gottfried, and in 2004, they sought the title of NCAA Regional Tournament.

Alabama Men’s Basketball Head Coach 2025

Nate Oats is the Alabama Crimson Tide's head basketball coach as of March 2025. He replaced Avery Johnson as the head coach of Alabama in March 2019. Previously, he was the head coach for the University of Buffalo (2015–19).

Oats led the Crimson Tide men's basketball team to 144 victories, including two SEC regular-season titles, two SEC tournament titles, and three visits to the Sweet 16. He is the only coach in program history to win multiple SEC tournament and regular season titles.

Oats has spent six years at The Capstone and has amassed a record of 145–62 (.700). Oats has an outstanding 241–105 (.697) record in his ten years as head coach. His teams have qualified for the NCAA Tournament seven times.

Oats agreed to a contract extension in the 2020–21 season, and he was given another one in 2024, which will keep him with the Crimson Tide basketball team until 2030.

Assistant Coaches

Nate Oats hired former Taipei Mars head coach Brian Adams in the summer of 2024. He entered his first season as an assistant coach at the University of Alabama and served as an assistant coach with the Detroit Pistons during the 2023-24 season.

Oats brought on Ryan Pannone from the New Orleans Pelicans in 2023. Pannone was the G-League head coach for the Pelicans in Erie and Birmingham prior to becoming an assistant. He also has five years of international experience working as an assistant for professional teams.

Preston Murphy begins his second season on the Crimson Tide coaching staff; however, his hire was postponed for several months until the expiration of an NCAA show cause.
