About Oscar Robertson Trophy
The Oscar Robertson Trophy is provided to the best men’s college basketball player under NCAA Division I college basketball. The award has been named after Oscar Palmer Robertson, notable for being a 12-time NBA All-Star as well as NBA Champion in 1971. Furthermore, he has also been a three-time NBA All-Star MVP player. Throughout his NBA career, he has played for the Cincinnati Royals (now Sacramento Kings) and the Milwaukee Bucks.
The Oscar Robertson Trophy is one of the oldest trophies and it was first presented in 1959 to Oscar Robertson of the Cincinnati Bearcats. Notably, it was originally called the Player of the Year Award. However, Robertson’s excellent basketball skills and promotion of the game led to the trophy being renamed to its present name in 1998. Since then, the award has been presented every year with Zach Edey of the Purdue Boilermakers being the latest recipient of the trophy in 2023.
A new recipient of the Oscar Robertson Trophy will be chosen and awarded from the excellent college basketball players in 2024.
