Pat Kelsey is the men's basketball coach for the Louisville Cardinals and joined on March 28, 2024. Throughout 12 seasons, Kelsey has achieved a 276–127 record, cumulating over 70% winning rate, as of January 2025. Under his guidance, Kelsey's teams won 11 conference championships and reached four NCAA Tournament appearances. Before joining Louisville, Kelsey coached at the College of Charleston from 2021 to 2024, and before that, he spent nine years as the head coach at Winthrop University. Kelsey's coaching career also includes roles as associate head coach at Xavier University and assistant coach at Wake Forest. He started his coaching career at Elder High School in Cincinnati. Kelsey was awarded the Big South Coach of the Year in 2021 and the CAA Coach of the Year in 2024.

Pat Kelsey had a remarkable season in his second year at the College of Charleston. During the 2022-2023 season, he led the Cougars to a 31-4 record. The team won its first Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) championship since 2008 and won 20 straight games. Charleston also won the Charleston Classic title in 2022 and entered the AP Top 25 for four weeks, reaching as high as No. 18. Kelsey received several coaching accolades, including USBWA and NABC District Coach of the Year awards. The Cougars also had their first No. 13 seed in the NCAA Tournament.
