Tom Izzo is the men's basketball head coach for the Michigan State Spartans. Izzo began his coaching career in 1977 at Ishpeming High School before beginning his college basketball career as an assistant coach for Northern Michigan from 1979 to 1983. In 1983, he joined Michigan State as an assistant coach and became the head coach in 1995. Throughout his tenure, he spent three decades leading the Spartans to 26 straight NCAA tournament appearances. Izzo was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2016.

He helped the Michigan State team win the NCAA National Championship in 2000 and led them to Final Four appearances eight times in 1999, 2000, 2001, 2005, 2009, 2010, 2015, and 2019. Izzo's teams have experienced a record-breaking streak of 26 consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances, the longest active streak recognized by the NCAA as of 2024.
