Donovan Smith is an American Football Quarterback, who plays college football for Houston Cougars and previously for Texas Tech Raiders. Prior to the 2020 season, Smith sustained a shoulder injury that kept him from playing in any games; however, he made a full recovery in the spring following surgery. Smith was a Texas Tech college football player before joining the Cougars. Smith finished the game 25 for 32 for 322 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception in the Red Raiders' 41-38 victory, which is considered to be one of his best performances.

In the team's Week 11 game against Iowa State, Donovan Smith made his college debut as a starting player when Tyler Shough was still recovering from a Week 4 collarbone injury and Henry Colombi was out due to illness. In 2022, Smith went 54 yards to return one of his three interceptions for a touchdown. At one time, the Red Raiders were up 17-3, but the Cougars rallied to tie the game. Smith's game-winning touchdown in double overtime tied the score at 20-20. He won the Earl Campbell-Tyler Rose Award and was named National Player of the Week as a result of his performance against Texas. Smith relocated to Houston on December 21st, 2022. He completed 256 passes for 2,801 passing yards in 2023. He was intercepted 13 times and sacked 26 times, yet he still had a strong passer rating of 135.5. On 138 rush attempts, Smith accumulated 428 yards and six touchdowns.
