Fenway Bowl Stadium

The Fenway Bowl is a newly established college football bowl game that is played in Boston, Massachusetts, United States, under the NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS). The first game of the Fenway Bowl was played on December 17, 2022. The Fenway Bowl is one of the three bowl games that is played in a baseball stadium.

The Fenway Bowl witnesses competitions between teams from the American Athletic Conference (AAC) and the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC). Notably, the Cincinnati Bearcats, the Louisville Cardinals, the Boston College Eagles, and the SMU Mustangs have been the past participants in the Fenway Bowl. The 2024 version of the Fenway Bowl will see the North Carolina Tar Heels and the UConn Huskies facing off to win the game on December 28, 2024.

Fenway Park is the stadium for the Fenway Bowl games. However, it is a baseball stadium notable for being the home of the Boston Red Sox of Major League Baseball (MLB). Located in Boston, Massachusetts, United States, it is the United States’s oldest active baseball stadium as well as the second smallest baseball stadium, as per Baseball in Stadiums.

The Fenway Bowl games in this park were initially supposed to start in the 2020-2021 season. However, the Covid-19 pandemic delayed it. As a result, the first Fenway Bowl game in this stadium was played on December 17, 2022, between the Cincinnati Bearcats and the Louisville Cardinals, which the Louisville Cardinals won 24-7.

The construction for the Fenway Park started in 1911 and the park was officially opened to the fans on April 20, 1912, as per Baseball in Stadiums. The construction cost of the stadium at the time was $650,000. The general contractor for the stadium were Charles Logue Building Company, and Coleman Brothers Inc. The structural engineer was Osborn Engineering Corp. while James E. McLaughlin served as the architect of the stadium.

Fenway Park underwent major renovations in 1988, 2002 to 2011 and in 2017. This has resulted in the stadium growing in its capacity. The renovations led to the addition of private suites, 610 galls-enclosed club seats replacing the press box, two open-air levels, seats with concierge services and a separate standing room. Moreover, it also received a Daktronics screen in 20000 and the wooden seats were replaced with plastic seats as per Baseball in Stadiums.
