Jalen Catalon is a senior safety player for the UNLV Rebels, as of 2024. He is a native of Mansfield, Texas, and graduated from the Mansfield Legacy High School. Catalon was ranked as the No. 20 safety player in the nation by Rivals and the 29th-best prospect in Texas by 247Sports. Catalon transferred to the UNLV Rebels in 2024 after playing a season at Texas Longhorns. He began his collegiate career at Arkansas, playing from 2019 through 2022. He registered 159 total tackles with five interceptions and also defended 14 passes in 21 games. Throughout his career he earned many recognitions, he was selected in the All-SEC First Team and Freshman All-American honors by FWAA and The Athletic in 2020. He was named in the 2024 Preseason All-Mountain West honors. He played eight games for Texas in 2023 before an injury that furthered his collegiate career with UNLV. In 2024, he will be reunited with his former coach Barry Odom.
Jalen Catalon had a remarkable season for the Arkansas Razorbacks in 2020. He was a semifinalist for the Jim Thorpe Award. Catalon contributed with 51 solo tackles, and 99 tackles in total, with 3 interceptions, 2 forced fumbles, and 4 pass breakups. He earned a selection in the All-SEC First Team by the Associated Press. Catalon’s most decisive game was against Ole Miss, he recorded his first career interception, and returned 35 yards for a touchdown, registering nine tackles and a forced fumble. Catalon was the only freshman in the FBS conference to register 95 tackles with at least three interceptions in a regular season.
