Jay Higgins is a collegiate football linebacker playing his final year of eligibility with the Iowa Hawkeyes in the Big Ten Conference. He attended the Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory School where captained the team, both, in his junior and senior seasons, and led the school to the National Championship Game as a sophomore. He was a consensus three-star recruit in the class of 2020 and was named to the All-State Top 50 as a junior and senior. Higgins holds the school record for career tackles with 471.
Born and raised in Indianapolis, Higgins signed with Iowa Hawkeyes over offers from Air Force, Ball State, Kent State, and Miami among others. In his freshman year, he appeared in six games recording two solo tackles while in his sophomore year, he recorded five tackles in 14 games. After struggling in his first two years at Iowa, Higgins had a breakthrough campaign in the 2023 season. He led the Big Ten conference with 171 tackles and was ranked third in the Nation. After a spectacular 2023 campaign, Higgins witnessed a spectacular year in his final season with Iowa where he led the led the team with 118 tackles in 2024.
