Maalik Murphy is a college football player, playing for the Duke Blue Devils, as of 2024. Murphy hails from Inglewood, California. His football journey began at Junípero Serra High School in Gardena, where he took the reins as the starting quarterback during his junior year. Despite a shortened season due to COVID-19, Murphy showcased his talent, throwing for 1,261 yards, nine touchdowns, and four interceptions. His senior year proved monumental as he led Junípero Serra to victory in the 2021 CIF Division 1-A state championship, amassing impressive stats of 2,954 passing yards, 22 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions while also contributing six rushing touchdowns. However, this triumphant season was marred by a severe ankle injury during the championship game. Recognized as a four-star recruit, Murphy received numerous scholarship offers, ultimately committing to play for Texas over UCLA.

In January 2022, Maalik Murphy embarked on his college career with the Texas Longhorns as an early enrollee. Despite redshirting his true freshman season due to recovery from his ankle injury, he demonstrated his prowess in Texas's 2023 spring game, completing 9 of 13 pass attempts for 165 yards and a touchdown. However, on December 13, 2023, he announced his decision to enter the transfer portal and joined the Duke Blue Devils.
