"Ashton Jeanty is the best": Boise State coach ignites Heisman debate with blunt remarks on Deion Sanders' Travis Hunter comment

Ashton Jeanty and Travis Hunter remain the favorites this year for the Heisman trophy. Hunter, playing for Colorado as a Wide Receiver, amassed 1,152 yards and 14 touchdowns on 92 receptions this season. He also has 20 solo tackles and 11 assisted tackles in the defense.

When asked about whether he feels that the race for Heisman is over, Boise State coach Spencer Danielson said:

"Absolutely not. And I'm not going to speak a lot to the Heisman yet. That is going to be coming from me here soon. Ashton Jeanty is the best football player in the country. And for me, if you're one of the best players in the country, you play in a championship game."

Jeanty, playing for Boise State as a running back, accumulated 2,288 yards and 28 touchdowns on 312 rushing attempts. He led Boise State to an 11-1 record this season, taking the No. 1 position in Mountain West standings. With the Mountain West championship game against UNLV Rebels left, Jeanty has exceeded Derrick Henry's numbers in 2015 (his Heisman-winning season as an RB) by 491 yards and six touchdowns.

Coach Prime believes the Heisman race is decided after Hunter's performance

On Friday, Colorado dominated Oklahoma State in the final game of the season. They won with a score of 52-0. Hunter ran 116 yards for 10 receptions and three touchdowns. After the game, Coach Prime said:

"I think Travis clinched the Heisman with his performance, I think he made a lot of people aware of how ignorant that was with the Thorpe. His performance today, what he had? Three touchdowns, a hundred yards, an interception and two passes broken up."

Hunter is already a finalist for the best all-rounder, best receiver, best defensive, most versatile player and player of the year.
