Nick Saban, ͏the 2024 E͏SPY Icon Award winne͏r served͏ as the ͏head ͏coac͏h of the Alabama Crimson͏ Tide for a͏n ͏i͏mpressive 17 years, ͏lead͏ing the team to͏ six cham͏pionsh͏ip vi͏ctor͏ies. During his ͏appear͏a͏nc͏e on ͏The Pat McAfe͏e Show, Saban di͏s͏cu͏ss͏ed Al͏abama and i͏ts f͏uture͏.
When McAfee asked about what͏ the legendary coach would do if he was at the helm, Saban took the opportunity to throw a su͏btle jab at Paul Finebaum.
"I wasn't worried about what everybody else said, or what everybody thought, or what was in the press about how we played, or what we should have done, or shouldn't have done. I put more pressure on myself to do a good job, and to put pressure on the other team by what we did," he said.
"I was not ever focused on what everybody said, thought, or what was on the internet, or what Paul Finebaum thought. I never was concerned about any of those things. And I never took any of it personal, because it does affect your focus, and your judgment and your decision-making when you get involved in all that stuff." Nick Saban added.
The tension between Paul Finebaum and Nick Saban dates back to his coaching days. Finebaum frequently criticized the former Crimson Tide coach on television, often making a career out of his critiques.
Can Nick Saban's former team still get knocked out and miss the CFP?
The team that Nick Saban coached, Alabama currently sits at 11th in the CFP rankings with a 9-3 record in the SEC, edging out Miami who finished 10-2. However, Alabama's playoff spot is far from secure.
Much depends on the outcomes of key championship games, particularly SMU vs. Clemson. A Clemson victory could significantly impact the rankings. Another crucial matchup to watch is Arizona State vs. Iowa State, as the winner of that game is poised to claim a playoff spot.
If they don't make it to the playoffs Alabama fans will rue the upset loss against the Oklahoma Sooners. In Week 13, the two teams faced off at the Norman Stadium and Alabama was handed a shock 24-3 defeat at the hands of the Sooners. If the Crimson Tide had not lost that game, they may have made it to the playoffs without having to depend on other results.
