James Franklin's Penn State has the Ornagle Bowl coming up on Jan. 9 against Notre Dame. Both programs took out big schools to reach the semifinals. The Fighting Irish won against the 2nd-ranked Georgia (23-10), while the Nittany Lions defeated 3rd-ranked Boise State (31-14).

An old 2019 clip of Franklin surfaced on social media, showing him expressing his desire to become the first African-American coach to win the college football national championship.

"I don't usually talk about this publicly, but my goal is to be the first African-American football coach to win a college national championship," James said.
"That's something very historic. So I spend very little time talking about because really my job is to help the players reach their goal. But that's something that maybe we can do together," he added.
