"Nick Saban is the greatest coach": Fans dismiss UNC GM Mike Lombardi as he makes a loud welcome for CFB athletes

Mike Lombardi joined UNC as their general manager, following Bill Belichick. Belichick, the former New England Patriots general manager, joined UNC as its new head coach after Mack Brown was fired near the end of the regular season. UNC finished 6-6 in the ACC, dropping two of their last three games.

Speaking on "The Pat McAfee Show," Lombardi urged football players to join the transfer portal if they wanted to play for the greatest coach of all time (GOAT). Fans have staunchly dismissed his statement on social media, stating who they think is the GOAT:

Lombardi left VSiN to join UNC as general manager. Here's the statement he provided:

“I’m excited to join Coach Belichick at North Carolina,” Lombardi said, adding, "Although leaving my VSIN family will be hard, I’m excited to return to helping build a winning program. I’m forever thankful for all the great people at VSIN, especially Bill Adee and the Musburger family."

After starting his career with early coaching roles, Bill Belichick found success with the New York Giants (1979–90). As defensive coordinator, he won two Super Bowls, including Super Bowl XXV, whose defensive game plan is in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. He became head coach of the Cleveland Browns (1991–95) and later returned to the New England Patriots in 2000.

With Brady as quarterback, Belichick led the Patriots to six Super Bowl titles and nine appearances. Highlights include a perfect 16–0 regular season in 2007 and three championships in four years (2001, 2003, 2004). Brady and Belichick formed one of the NFL’s most iconic duos, redefining sustained success in football history.
