Travis Hunter, the Colorado wide receiver, won the Heisman trophy Saturday night with 2,231 points, a 214-point difference from the second-place Ashton Jeanty. After the celebrations ended and with a mere 2-hour sleep, Hunter was back on TV as a panel guest for the morning segment "Good Morning America."

On the show, he was asked about his dad and why talking about him made him emotional during his speech. Travis replied:

"I looked up to my dad. He was a guy I looked up to when I wanted to play football when I was little. Going to his little league football that he used to play and seeing him make touchdowns and go out there and just be reckless and dominant on the field,"
"I just had to show everybody what I can do, where it comes from. It comes from my family and I was just thankful and happy to be his first son, his oldest son to go out there and show them, show the world that we got more to come after me." Hunter added.

"I did it for you, man": Travis Hunter makes his dad emotional with his speech

Hunter's father, Travis Hunter Sr., wasn't able to attend the Heisman ceremony. His absence was felt when Travis got up on stage to receive the award and give his speech. Travis said:

"And I want to say something to my father. He's not here to be able to make it, but I know you're watching on TV. Dad, I love you. All the stuff you went through, man look at your older son. I did it for you, man. All the times that you didn't get to see me. When the times you came to see my games, from not seeing probably two games in high school to seeing me on TV every weekend and come to see me, man. That means so much to me. I know you wanted to be here and you can't, but trust me, I got you. I'm bringing the trophy home. I love you."

As the young two-way star said, his dad was watching the ceremony on TV and hearing his speech, Hunter Sr. got teary-eyed.

It is a proud moment for a father watching his son on TV winning the biggest award in college football.
