Riley Leonard is a quarterback for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. He will be a senior and lead the team as the captain for the 2024 season. Leonard hails from Fairhope, Alabama, and attended Fairhope High School. As a senior at Fairhope, he threw for 1,900 yards for 25 touchdowns and rushed 500 yards. Leonard transferred from the Duke Blue Devils after playing three seasons. He started his collegiate career at the Blue Devils and appeared in seven games as a freshman in 2021. During his sophomore and junior years, he started in all 26 games for the Blue Devils. Apart from football, Leonard also played basketball during high school and was the basketball Coastal Male Athlete of the Year in 2020 and 2021.
Riley Leonard had a remarkable season as a sophomore at Blue Devils. He played in all 13 games, registering 2,967 yards passing for 20 touchdowns, 699 rushing yards, and 13 touchdowns. Leonard became the third quarterback in FBS history to surpass both, the 2,900 passing yards and 695-yard rushing marks that season. He holds the school record for most touchdowns in a single season with 33 and for most games with at least one touchdown for 12 consecutive games. Leonard was decisive against Wake Forest, he threw 391 yards for four touchdowns and received the Military Bowl MVP Award. For his dual-threat qualities, he earned a selection in the 2022 All-ACC Honorable Team.
