Sebastian Castro is an American college football player who has announced his return to Iowa State for his final year of eligibility. The star defensive back of Iowa was the program’s highest-graded defensive player last season. Castro started his football career at Harold L. Richards High School where he was a two-way standout player and played both, as a defensive back and a quarterback. He was named the team captain as a junior and senior and recorded 210 tackles, 12 tackles for loss, six forced fumbles, and 11 interceptions during his three years as a defensive back. Castro was ranked the No.27 overall player in the state of Illinois by 247Sports. The three-star prospect from Oak Lawn started his collegiate football journey with Iowa Hawkeyes after considering offers from top programs like Ball State, Iowa State, Illinois, Minnesota, Notre Dame, and Syracuse.

In his first two years of college football, Castro struggled for game time and did not see any action. In 2021 as a redshirt freshman, Castro saw an increase in playing time as he appeared in 13 games and collected six tackles. The following season as a sophomore in 2022, he posted 33 tackles, a sack, five pass deflections, and a pair of forced fumbles when he saw action in all 13 games for the Hawkeyes. But this past season, Castro was given ample of opportunities in the secondary and didn’t waste a single snap. He tallied 67 tackles, 11 pass breakups, eight tackles for loss, three interceptions, one sack, and one forced fumble and was named first-team All-American by AP.

Castro announced his return to the Hawkeyes for one more season instead of declaring his name for the 2024 NFL Draft.
