The SMU Mustangs are members of the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC). Representing Southern Methodist University, the team competes in the NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS). Since their first college football season in 1916, the team is in its 107th college football season, as of 2024. The SMU Mustangs have become National Champions three times and Conference Champions eleven times in their career.
The SMU Mustangs play at their home stadium, the Gerald J. Ford Stadium in Dallas, Texas. The SMU Mustangs are rivals of the TCU Horned Frogs, the Houston Cougars, the North Texas Mean Green, the Navy Midshipmen, and the Rice Owls. Rhett Lashlee is a former college football player, plying his trade as a quarterback for the Arkansas Razorbacks from 2002 to 2004.
