The UNLV Rebels is a college football team of the University of Nevada, competing in the Mountain West Conference. The football program was established in 1968 and claimed one conference championship in 2023. They play their home games at Allegiant Stadium in Paradise, Nevada. They have played in many conferences, such as Division II Independent, Division I-A Independent, Pacific Coast / Big West, and WAC. The team has been led by head coach Barry Odom since 2023. The Rebels helped one player to the Consensus All-Americans team and numerous players to the NFL. Their three biggest rivals are Nevada, Hawaii, and San Jose State.
The UNLV Rebels' had a breakthrough season in 1974, under head coach Ron Meyer. The team finished the regular season with an 11-0 record and made it to the NCAA Division II playoffs. The Rebels went into the semifinals in the Grantland Rice Bowl. They ended the season with a record of 12-1, the only undefeated regular season in their history and the most significant season of their early years. The success of the 1974 season laid a foundation for the future of UNLV as they transitioned into the Division I competition.
