It is now official! Team India successfully ended their 10-year drought and booked their birth in the final of the T20 World Cup 2024 after thrashing defending champions England. In the penultimate match of the tournament, Rohit Sharma's men were completely ruthless, clinching the all-important semi-final by a 68-run margin.

After being put to bat first, India made 171, courtesy of skipper Rohit top-scoring with another fifty. Although Chris Jordan took three wickets, it was an ideal total on a track that aided spin bowling. England missed the trick and couldn't put enough pressure on India.

However, the Indian spinners made it extremely difficult for the English batters. Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav spun a web around them, as the two left-armers bagged six wickets between themselves to bundle the Three Lions for just 103 runs. Jasprit Bumrah also bagged two wickets.

On that note, let us take a look at three big records that were broken during India's historic triumph over England in Guyana.

#1 Virat Kohli has worst average as an opener in a T20 World Cup edition

The horror show for Virat Kohli continued on Thursday as well. The modern-day master, who adores dominating teams on big stages, faltered against England, scoring just nine runs. Due to this, he has now scored just 75 runs in the entire tournament, taking his batting average to a mere 10.71.

Kohli's average in this tournament is now the worst by any opener in a T20 World Cup edition, with a minimum of six innings played. Second on the list is Bangladesh's Tanzid Hasan averaging just 10.86, also from the ongoing edition of the tournament.

#2 Rohit Sharma now has most fours in T20 World Cup history!

It was another day out for Rohit Sharma, who broke a couple of records during his marvelous half-century. The Hitman mustered six fours during his stay, thus taking his overall four-hitting tally to 113. He went past his former Mumbai Indians coach Mahela Jayawardene on the list, who hit 111 boundaries for Sri Lanka in the tournament.

Also, Rohit completed 5,000 runs as an Indian captain across formats, becoming only the fifth to achieve the following the likes of Virat Kohli, MS Dhoni, Mohammad Azharuddin, and Sourav Ganguly. Rohit Sharma, who hit two sixes, also became the first-ever Indian to complete 50 maximums in T20 World Cup history.

#3 Joint-most ICC finals appearances

With a dominating performance in Guyana, Team India successfully clinched the final berth and booked their ticket for Barbados, where they will meet South Africa for the silverware. Both India and South Africa have been unbeaten thus far, thus adding a new level of excitement to the pre-match buzz.

On the back of a superb show in the semifinal, India have now equaled Australia's record of qualifying for the most number of finals in ICC tournaments. The T20 World Cup 2024 would be India's 13th ICC Final.

Having played 12 finals thus far, India have won five ICC trophies as of yet. Needless to say, the Men in Blue fans would be desperate to see India end their ICC silverware drought.
