Sri Lanka have been unbeaten against Bangladesh in the history of ODI World Cups. Both teams have played thrice in the tournament, with the Lankans winning all three games.

The maiden BAN vs. SL tie at an ODI World Cup came in 2003 when Chaminda Vaas wreaked havoc and claimed 6/25 to restrict Bangladesh for 124. Sri Lanka eased past the chase in 21.1 overs and won the game by 10 wickets.

The two teams met again at the ODI World Cup 2007. This time, a freakish innings by Sanath Jayasuriya (109 off 87) saw Sri Lanka pile up a first-innings total of 318/4. In reply, Bangladesh could only muster 112 runs, with Lasith Malinga taking 3/27.

The last time Sri Lanka and Bangladesh met at an ODI World Cup was in 2015 in Melbourne. Once again, Sri Lanka dominated the clash as T.M Dilshan (161) and Kumar Sangakkara (105) scored centuries in the first innings. Sri Lanka won that particular game by a hefty margin of 92 runs.
