An out-and-out match-winner with the new ball, and a very handy hitter of a cricket ball down the order, Deepak Chahar has been a constant at the Chennai Super Kings ever since he impressed MS Dhoni during his stint at the Rising Pune Supergiants in 2016/17. Deepak was picked up by RPSG for INR 10 lakh, and while he merely managed five games for the franchise across two seasons, it was enough for Dhoni to be convinced that he needed the Rajasthan cricketer at CSK.And, so, Chahar was picked up by the CSK for INR 80 lakh at the 2018 auction. He impressed everyone with his ability to move the ball both ways in the season that ensued, taking 10 wickets in 12 games. He also impressed with his batting skills as his 20-ball 39 helped his side win a crucial game against PBKS at the fag end of the season. The following season proved to be a path-breaking one for Deepak as he emerged as the leader of the CSK attack as a 'power play specialist'. He claimed 22 wickets in 17 games at 21.9/7.47. In the same season, he created a record for delivering the most number of dot balls (20 v KKR) in a bowling spell in IPL history. He blew hot and cold in the 2020 and 2021 seasons but still managed to make up for it with crucial performances, like his 4/13 against PBKS in 2021 or 32/1 against KKR in the final, where he dismissed the in-form Shubman Gill are good examples of his impact.Deepak was regained by CSK for a whopping INR 14 crores in the 2022 mega auction, but a back injury ruled him out of the entire season. He was retained by the franchise ahead of the 2023 mini-auction and also made his comeback through the 2023 IPL edition. He bowled decently and took 13 wickets. Now, Deepak will be seen playing for CSK for the same price (INR 14 crore) in the 2024 IPL.
