Delhi Capitals Women’s franchise finalized all 18 slots available at the second edition of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2024. While the DC squad retained the majority of their players, they have bolstered their team with the addition of Annabel Sutherland. The Australian all-rounder has played 122 T20 matches and has scored 1,400 runs and has bagged 99 wickets.
DC went on a bidding war against Mumbai Indians for Sutherland, whose base price ₹40 lakh. The other two acquisitions made by DC were Aparna Mondal and Ashwani Kumari. While Mondal is a wicket-keeper from Bengal, while Kumari is an all-rounder. Kumari was part of the Gujarat Giants franchise in the previous edition of the WPL.
Delhi Capitals (DC) women's franchise ended up as the finalists of the inaugural Women's Premier League (WPL) edition. The squad, led by Meg Lanning, finished the WPL 2023 points table as the league-leaders but lost in the finals against Mumbai Indians (MI) women's.
Ahead of the WPL 2024 auction, Delhi Capitals released only three players from their squad. Hence, they only had a purse of ₹2.25 crore available to them and had three slots to fill.
Delhi Capitals, however, splashed the majority of their purse to acquire the services of Annabel Sutherland. Delhi Capitals squad added Sutherland by a whopping figure of ₹2.00 crore. Delhi also added Aparna Mondal and Ashwani Kumari for ₹10 lakhs each.
