India beat South Africa by seven runs in the final of the ICC Men's 2024 T20 World Cup at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados on Saturday, June 29. With the victory, the Men in Blue broke their 11-year-old jinx of not having won an ICC title. India had won the Champions Trophy in 2013, while their last World Cup win came in the one-day edition in India in 2011.

Batting first after winning the toss in the final, Team India put up 176-7 as Virat Kohli top-scored with 76 off 49, while Axar Patel contributed 47 off 31. In their chase, the Proteas were held to 169-8 despite Heinrich Klaasen's 52 off 27 as Hardik Pandya claimed 3-20, while Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh picked up two wickets each.

The recently concluded ICC event was the ninth edition of the Men's T20 World Cup. On that note, let's take a look at all the winners of the trophy over the years.

Led by MS Dhoni, India won the inaugural T20 World Cup in South Africa in 2007. The triumph popularized T20 cricket to such an extent in India that questions began to be asked about the existence of the two other formats.

India lost only one match during the tournament, going down to New Zealand by 10 runs. They stunned Australia by 15 runs in the semifinal in Durban and went on to clinch a nail-biting final against Pakistan by five runs in Johannesburg.

2009 - Pakistan

It was a case of so near yet so far for Pakistan in 2007. But, in 2009, they were crowned the world champions in England. The unpredictable Asian side suffered early losses to England and Sri Lanka by 48 runs and 19 runs respectively.

Pakistan, though, recovered well to reach the semis in which they beat South Africa by seven runs in Nottingham. They were absolutely dominant in the final against Sri Lanka at Lord's in London, registering a crushing eight-wicket win.

2010 - England

England won their first ever ICC title in men's cricket when they lifted the 2010 T20 World Cup under Paul Collingwood.

Although they went down to the West Indies in their first match at the Providence Stadium in Guyana by eight wickets, the Englishmen recovered to cruise into the semifinals.

In the first semifinal in St Lucia, England thumped Sri Lanka by seven wickets. They took on traditional rivals Australia in the final and came up trumps, registering another seven-wicket win in Barbados.

2012 - West Indies

West Indies may have lost their way in Tests and ODIs, but they remain a force in the T20I format.

The triumph in the 2012 T20 World Cup held in Sri Lanka is proof of the same. They went down to Australia by 17 runs (DLS method) in their first match and were also hammered by Sri Lanka by nine wickets.

Their last Super 8 match against New Zealand went into the Super Over, but the Windies emerged triumphant. They went on to thump Australia by 74 runs in the semifinal in Colombo and beat Sri Lanka by 36 runs in the final at the same venue.

2014 - Sri Lanka

It was Sri Lanka's turn to be crowned T20 world champions, as they won the 2014 edition held in Bangladesh. The Lankans lost only one game, against England by six wickets in Chattogram, en route their way to the knockouts.

In the semifinal, they got the better of West Indies by 27 runs (DLS method) in Dhaka. The Lankans took on a strong and unbeaten India side in the final in Dhaka. They stunned the Men in Blue by six wickets.

The West Indies became the first side to win the Men's T20 World Cup more than once when they clinched the trophy during the 2016 edition in India. The Caribbean side began the tournament with three consecutive wins.

They suffered a shock upset against Afghanistan, going down by six runs in Nagpur. The West Indies, though, recovered brilliantly to hammer hosts India by seven wickets in the semifinal in Mumbai.

Carlos Brathwaite's four consecutive sixes then lifted them to a four-wicket win against England in the final in Kolkata.

2021 - Australia

It was Australia's turn to dazzle in the T20 World Cup, as they were crowned the champions during the 2021 edition in the UAE. Barring an eight-wicket loss against England, the Aussies cruised into the knockouts, with four comprehensive wins.

They were up against Pakistan in the semifinal in Dubai but got the better of them by five wickets. The final against New Zealand at the same venue was a disappointingly one-sided encounter. Australia registered an eight-wicket win to lift their maiden T20 World Cup title.

2022 - England

England became the second team, after the West Indies, to win the Men's T20 World Cup twice.

They achieved the feat in Australia during the 2022 edition. The Englishmen, led by Jos Buttler, had suffered a shock loss to Ireland by five runs (DLS method) in a rain-hit game. They, however, recovered to reach the knockouts.

In the second semifinal in Adelaide, they handed a 10-wicket hammering to India. England then went on to beat Pakistan by five wickets in the final in Melbourne. It was the second big win for the nation in a span of three years, having lifted the ODI World Cup at home in 2019.

2024 - India

India became the third team to win the Men's T20 World Cup twice when they lifted the recently concluded edition in the West Indies and the United States. The Men Blue also created history, becoming the first side to win the trophy by remaining unbeaten in an edition.

India cruised through the group stage, winning their first three matches. In the Super 8, they got the better of Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Australia. India then registered a comprehensive 68-run triumph over England in the second semifinal in Guyana before getting the better of South Africa in a nail-biting final.
