Lasith Malinga's absence in the World T20 was a huge loss for Sri Lanka as the defending champions had a horrible tournament. The former Sri Lankan T20I skipper missing out on the whole tournament also meant that Shahid Afridi could overtake Malinga as the tournament's highest wicket-taker.
Afridi, who picked up 4 wickets in 4 innings in the World T20, took his total wickets tally to 39 wickets, going one above Malinga. The former Pakistan captain took 39 wickets in 34 innings at an average of 23.25. Afridi also holds the records for most number of wickets in T20Is, with 98 to his name.
