India will battle against South Africa in the 2024 T20 World Cup Final today (June 29) in Barbados. This is the first time South Africa has qualified for the T20 World Cup Final, while India will compete in the T20 World Cup Final for the third time.

Back in 2007, India beat Pakistan in the final to become the inaugural T20 World Cup champions. Seven years later, India lost a final against Sri Lanka in Bangladesh. Notably, India beat South Africa in the semifinals of that mega event.

Before the Proteas and the Men in Blue lock horns in a high-stakes game once again, here's a look at India's playing XI from the 2014 T20 World Cup Final and where the players are now.

Openers - Rohit Sharma and Ajinkya Rahane

Rohit Sharma opened the batting with Ajinkya Rahane that night at the Shere Bangla National Stadium. Sharma worked hard for a 26-ball 29, while Rahane lost his stumps to Angelo Mathews after an eight-ball three.

Sharma is the captain of the Indian team in all formats now. He has led the team from the front in the ongoing mega event. Meanwhile, Rahane has been dropped from all formats. He plays domestic cricket for Mumbai and IPL for Chennai Super Kings.

Middle Order - Virat Kohli, Yuvraj Singh, MS Dhoni (c and wk), Suresh Raina and Ravindra Jadeja

India's star-studded middle-order featured 2011 World Cup winners Virat Kohli, Yuvraj Singh, MS Dhoni, and Suresh Raina. Ravindra Jadeja added cushion to the batting lineup.

While Kohli top-scored for the team with a 58-ball 77, it was a forgettable outing for the duo of Yuvraj and Dhoni. Yuvraj struggled for a 21-ball 11, and Dhoni remained not out on four runs off seven balls. Despite Kohli's five fours and four sixes, India reached only 130/4 in 20 overs.

Raina did not get a chance to bat, but he bowled a decent four-over spell of 1/24, dismissing Mahela Jayawardene. Meanwhile, Jadeja just bowled a solitary over, leaking 11 runs.

Only Kohli and Jadeja are members of the current Indian squad. Both players actively play in all formats for the nation. Yuvraj, Dhoni, and Raina have retired. Dhoni still plays for CSK in IPL, whereas Yuvraj and Raina participate in exhibition matches and work as commentators.

Bowlers - Ravichandran Ashwin, Mohit Sharma, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Amit Mishra

India played the big game with two specialist fast bowlers in Mohit Sharma and Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Mohit returned with figures of 1/18 in two overs, while Kumar remained wicketless in his three-over spell, where he gave away 18 runs.

Spinners Ravichandran Ashwin and Amit Mishra bagged one wicket each, but their efforts ended in a losing cause as Sri Lanka reached 134/4 in 17.5 overs.

None of the four bowlers have retired. However, none of them are a part of the Indian squad right now as well. In the previous IPL season, Ashwin played for Rajasthan Royals, Mohit turned up for Gujarat Titans, Bhuvi continued to play for Sunrisers Hyderabad, and Mishra represented the Lucknow Super Giants.
