IPL 2017 Fantasy: ROI on 5 most expensive players in MI-SRH clash

Dhawan was the third-most expensive Indian player in the MI-SRH clash

IPL 2017 is well underway and the fantasy fever has certainly caught on. While there are plenty who watch each IPL game to see their sides win, there are certainly plenty more who do so even when their sides don't because of IPL fantasy.

While the reasons for playing the game might be plenty, there is only one thing that everyone wants, points. And it is not always the biggest or the most expensive players that always get all the points. So it is important to know which expensive players are in form and firing to know if they are the right ones to splash the cash on.

So for all those out there, here is a look at how the most expensive players from the MI-SRH game fared. Here's the ROI on 5 most expensive players in MI-SRH clash:

NOTE: All the cost is according to the official IPL fantasy game (apologies to those using any other portal to play the game)

Shikhar Dhawan

Cost: 950,000

Shikhar Dhawan may not be everyone’s cup of tea as far as T20s are concerned but the Indian opener has certainly done everything in his power to disprove that and show that is nothing more than just a myth or a lazy stereotype. He proved that once again in the clash against MI.

His innings was far from free-flowing, most of his shots were edges and the ball seldom went where he intended but he still finished as the second-leading run-getter in the game and his points tally was impressive once again.

At 950,000, Dhawan is one of the most expensive players in the game but he still proved out to be a good investment for those who had him as he gave 65 points. While his strike rate was just 111, he just fell just two shy of a fifty.

Lasith Malinga

Cost: 950,000

The Sri Lankan fast bowler has been one of MI’s mainstays and he continues to incredibly hard to decipher even in the tenth edition of the Indian Premier League as some of Sunrisers Hyderabad batsmen found.

Malinga is the joint-second most expensive foreigner in the MI-SRH game and his returns were worse than that of Dhawan because of the one big over he bowled and the fact that he picked up just one wicket. While Jasprit Bumrah won the player of the match and in excess of 100 points, Malinga picked up just 37 points despite his decent figures of 1/30.

Because of the fact that he cost 950,000 and he is a foreign player, he wasn’t a great investment for those who had him in the team and will need more wickets if he is to become a regular in everyone’s fantasy teams.

Jos Buttler

Cost: 950,000

Ever since MI made the decision to open with Jos Buttler, his fantasy potential has only increased. The fact that he can clear any boundary and has all the shots in the book coupled with the fact that he has the opportunity to play the whole innings makes him a no-brainer if he is in form.

Unsurprisingly, he is the second-most expensive MI player against SRH but it was arguably his worst game of the season so far. This was the first game in which he was dismissed below 25, which is a big deal as far as fantasy is concerned and thereby those who had were left disappointed.

Although he scored an 11-ball 14, he picked up just 19 points for his batting and that isn’t great numbers for someone who costs nearly a million.

Yuvraj Singh

Yuvraj Singh

Cost: 1,000,000

Ever since Yuvraj Singh hit a fifty in the first match of IPL 2017, there have been plenty of people who have been impressed enough to get him in their fantasy side. But the Indian all-rounder didn’t fare so well against Mumbai Indians.

Playing primarily as a batsman due to the options that the reigning IPL champions have with the ball, Yuvraj really needs to fire on all cylinders with the bat to be considered as a good addition to the side, especially considering the fact that he costs a million.

Against MI, that wasn’t the case as he scored just 5 (and was lucky to not end up with -15 for his slow strike rate as he didn’t cross the minimum of 10 runs needed), which is a terrible return for anyone, let alone someone that cost a million.

David Warner

Warner

Cost: 1,050,000

The Sunrisers Hyderabad captain may have come into the IPL on the back of a poor series against India but he is showing none of that in the tenth edition of the tournament as he is already the orange cap holder. Against MI, he was the top-scorer in the match and just fell short of another well-deserved fifty.

While Warner is undoubtedly one of the finest batsmen that the IPL has seen, there is a misconception that he is usually better in run chases as compared to games in which he is batting first. But he has dispelled that myth and that was on evidence against MI.

Against MI, Warner scored 49 and finished with 63 points. Although he was the most expensive foreigner in the game, he still did enough to justify his selection, especially if you had him as captain.

Rohit Sharma

Rohit
It was another forgettable game for Rohit in IPL 2017

Cost: 1,050,000

Rohit Sharma hasn’t had a great start to IPL 2017. While MI may have won two of their first three games, captain Rohit Sharma is still far from his best. Whether that has anything to do with the fact that he isn’t opening the innings for MI or not, he is yet to get going in the tournament.

As the most expensive Indian player in the game, Rohit had another one to forget as he was dismissed for just four. While ending up on the winning side meant that he almost got to double digits in points for the game, it is far from what you expect from your most expensive player and arguably a primary choice for captain.

Given Rohit's record in run chases in the IPL recently, one could be forgiven for making him captain but at least against SRH that decision backfired as the Indian international had another failure.
