The Fair Play Award in the Indian Premier League (IPL) was introduced on 25 April, 2008. It is given to the team that upholds the spirit of the game and shows the best sportsmanship throughout the season. After each match, the two on-field umpires and the third umpire award points based on factors like player interactions and honesty. The team with the highest points at the end of the season wins.
Teams can earn a maximum of 10 points per match, awarded by the on-field and third umpires. 4 points are given for upholding the spirit of the game, while 6 points are divided among respecting the opposition, officials, and rules (2 points each). Teams are ranked based on their total points, but the winner is determined by the average points per match, calculated by dividing total points by matches played.
