The Indian Premier League (IPL) is a city-based T20 cricket tournament launched by the BCCI in 2007. Known for its massive commercial success, the IPL has become the most valuable cricket league globally. It is held between March and May and has a dedicated window in the ICC Future Tours Programme, minimizing conflicts with international matches.
The IPL has grown into one of the most valuable sports leagues globally. In 2014, it ranked sixth in attendance among all sports leagues. In 2010, it became the first sporting event to be streamed live on YouTube. The 2023 final became the most streamed live event on the internet, with 32 million viewers. The league's media rights for 2023-2027 were sold for US$6.4 billion, valuing each match at US$13.4 million, as per Times of India.
