The Indian Premier League (IPL) is set to enter its eighteenth season in 2025, First introduced in 2008, this Twenty20 format of cricket league has quickly connected with the Indian cricket fans and has emerged to become the most popular sports competition in the country. The Indian Premier League (IPL) includes ten teams from ten different cities of India since 2008. Some of these teams have become more popular than the others over the years due to their ability to become IPL champions multiple times. Moreover, some of these teams have also rebranded and changed their names over the years. These teams gets their players through bidding at the IPL auctions.

The Indian Premier League (IPL) have also included a Purple Cap Award, similar to their Orange Cap Award for their players. The Purple Cap, better known as Aramco Purple Cap is reserved for the bowlers rather than the batters. More specifically, this cap is granted to those bowlers who become the leading wicket takers throughout the season while the leading wicket-taker gets the Purple Cap Award after the completion of the season. Notably, Sohail Tanvir of the Rajasthan Royals became the inauagural Purple Cap winner which also contributed to his team becoming the inaugural IPL Champions in 2008.

The Purple Cap feature was introduced in the Indian Premier League (IPL) on April 25, 2008, following the introduction of the Orange Cup. Notably, the players with the most purple cap winnings in their IPL career are Harshal Patel, Bhuvaneshwar Kumar and Dwayne Bravo, all of whom have won the Purple Cup twice, as of March 2025.
