Jaydev Unadkat IPL Teams from 2014-24
After impressing the legendary Wasim Akram, who was, at the time, serving as the KKR bowling coach, Jaydev Unadkat earned an elusive IPL contract with the franchise in 2010. Unadkat played just 3 games that season, but still managed to showcase his skills and temperament with an impressive performance against the Rajasthan Royals- 3-26 where he dismissed the likes of Yusuf Pathan.
With him making his Test debut the same year, his stocks were soaring high, and as a result, KKR reclaimed his services at INR 1.1 Crores in the 2011 mega-auction.
But, over the next 5-6 years with franchises like RCB (2013), Delhi Capitals (2014-15), and KKR (2016), Unadkat realized channel bowling, which was reaping him rewards in FC cricket wasn't the sole requisite for sustained success in T20 cricket.
He finally turned it around in 2017, when he represented the Rising Pune Supergiant. The left-arm seamer picked wickets in both the power plays as well as at the death, and was one of the major reasons why the Supergiant was able to make it to the finals. In that season, Unadkat claimed his 2nd five-wicket haul (his maiden 5-for came for RCB against Delhi in 2013) in addition to pulling off a triple-wicket maiden, that too in the 20th over (vs SRH).
On expected terms, Unadkat proved to be the hottest property in the 2018 auction, where the likes of Rajasthan Royals and the Punjab Kings got embroiled in a major bidding war, which was eventually won by RR for INR 11.5 Crores.
But, Jaydev failed to stand up to the pressure that came with the price tag, and his performances in the succeeding seasons took a major downswing. In the 2018 season, he managed just 11 wickets @ 44.18/9.65. The performances further nosedived in 2019 and 2029, and after another poor outing in 2021, the Royals finally let go of him ahead of the 2022 mega-auction, where he was picked up by the Mumbai Indians for INR 1.3 Crores.
Unadkat featured in just 5 games for MI in IPL 2022, in which he managed 6 wickets while conceding runs @.9.50. He was released by the Mumbai Indians ahead of the 2023 mini-auction, where the Lucknow Supergiants claimed his services for INR 50 Lakhs and he played only 3 matches in that season and went wicketless. The Sunrisers Hyderabad have roped in the left-arm pacer for INR 1.6 crores ahead of IPL 2024.
