Jos Buttler, in ODI cricket, has captained the English side in 15 matches. His debut as an ODI captain was in October 2016 against Bangladesh. He captained the England team in three matches in Bangladesh, out of which, England won two of them. Next, Jos captained a few matches in the absence of Eoin Morgan till his permanent appointment. In June 2022, Jos Buttler was appointed as the new limited-overs captain after Eoin Morgan’s retirement from international cricket. His first series was a crucial one, against India. In the first match, England suffered a brutal defeat, losing the match by ten wickets. But in the second match, England made a comeback by winning the match by a staggering 100 runs. With the series tied, Buttler’s team were made to bat first. England made 259 runs which India chased down easily with five wickets and 47 balls to spare. The last series that Buttler captained England was against South Africa in July. The series was tied, with both the teams winning one match and the third match getting abandoned due to rain.

Jos Buttler has captained the English side in 16 T20Is. His debut was against Pakistan on 27 November 2015, which England won by three runs. Next, he led his team against South Africa in 2017, which also resulted in England’s victory. Buttler, captaining the English side, suffered a major defeat against Australia at the MCG in 2018. After Buttler’s appointment as the permanent captain of the English squad in limited overs cricket, Buttler went up against India. Buttler performed poorly in the series which resulted in England’s loss to India. His next series was a few weeks later, against the Proteas. Even an inexperienced South African team destroyed England, winning the series 2-1. After losing both the initial series, Buttler led his team next against Australia. Buttler performed brilliantly in the three T20Is, scoring 150 runs in three matches. The English team won the series 2-0 in Australia. This win helped England gain confidence before playing in the 2022 ICC T20 World Cup a week later. Captaining the English side for the first time in a World Cup, Buttler won the first match against Afghanistan but lost the second match against Ireland.
