India’s defeat in the World T20 opener caught most fans off guard, especially due to the spin-friendly nature of the pitch, which was expected to cause a lot of trouble to New Zealand and work in the home team’s favour. The result on Tuesday has thrown open the possibilities in the group, but another thing it has done is to give detractors a chance for a a good laugh.
Wesley Barresi, who was part of Netherlands’ failed campaign in the World T20 qualifiers earlier this month, tweeted a barb which was directed towards both ICC and BCCI.
He made fun of how the pitch has been prepared, leaving it unsaid how he thought it had been a strategic ploy which had turned upon the Indian team. However, he was not done. His tweet also suggested that India should have played New Zealand in Dharamshala so that they could have got at least one point.
There was a lot of bitterness in the Dutch camp during the qualifiers when Netherlands had been eliminated from the competition because of incessant rain in Dharamshala, forcing them to leave the tournament without even a fair chance of qualifying. Their match against Oman was abandoned without a ball being bowled, with no reserve day kept for the match.
The points had been shared then, but as can be seen from Barresi’s tweet, the unlucky Dutch are not in a generous mood.
