2024 T20 World Cup Points Table: Updated standings after Afghanistan vs Bangladesh match

Afghanistan moved from third to second position in the 2024 T20 World Cup points table for Super-8 Group 1. Rashid Khan and company edged Bangladesh in a nail-biting thriller last night to secure a place in the semifinals.

This marks the first time Afghanistan have qualified for the semifinals of any major ICC event. They upset former champions Australia earlier in the Super- 8 round and followed it up with a thrilling victory over Bangladesh to rise to the second spot in the 2024 T20 World Cup points table for Group 1.

Thanks to the win against Bangladesh, Afghanistan have finished with four points from three matches in the Super-8 round. They also improved their net run rate from -0.650 to -0.305 after beating the Bangla Tigers.

Australia dropped down from second to third spot in the 2024 T20 World Cup points table for Group 1. The Aussies only had two points from three matches. Bangladesh finished last with zero points from three games in Super 8s.

With the win, Afghanistan have set up a semifinal clash against the table-toppers of Group 2, South Africa. The match between the Proteas and Afghanistan will take place on Wednesday, June 26, at 8.30 pm local time (Thursday, June 27, 6 am IST) in Tarouba.

The second semifinal was decided yesterday as well. After India beat Australia, the Men in Blue confirmed a first-place finish in Group 1, meaning they will lock horns with defending champions England in the semifinals. The defending champions finished second in the Group 2 points table.

The India-England match will be played on Thursday, June 27, at 10.30 am local time (8 pm IST) at the Providence Stadium in Guyana. It will be interesting to see which two teams qualify for the final.
