Afghanistan opened their account in the 2024 T20 World Cup Super-Eight Group 1 points table after a historic win over Australia. Rashid Khan and Co. successfully defended a 149-run target against the former T20 World Cup winners in St. Vincent.

Thanks to their 21-run win over Australia, Afghanistan now have two points from two matches in the 2024 T20 World Cup points table of Group 1. Their net run rate has improved from -2.350 to -0.650. Meanwhile, Australia continue to be in the second spot with two points from two games. However, their net run rate has declined from +2.471 to +0.223.

Had Australia won this match, they would have confirmed a semifinal spot. However, now their final Super-Eight match against India has become a do-or-die encounter.

Australia need to beat India by a decent margin to qualify for the semifinals. On the other hand, Afghanistan will hope that India beat Australia to improve their chances of qualifying in the last four.

Can England confirm a top-two finish in the 2024 T20 World Cup points table for Group 2?

The 2024 T20 World Cup action will continue in the West Indies with a double-header featuring Group 2 teams. Defending champions England will be in action against debutants USA, with both teams needing to win the game by a decent margin to keep their hopes of progressing to the next round alive.

Later in the day, hosts West Indies will lock horns with South Africa. The Proteas only need one point from this match to seal a top-two finish, while the Men in Maroon need a victory. A heavy defeat could lead to the African side's elimination as well.
