In a battle between the co-hosts at the T20 World Cup 2024, the West Indies came out on top rather comfortably. The Caribbean unit decimated the USA, registering a nine-wicket win to claim their first Super 8 points.

After opting to bowl first in Barbados, Andre Russel dismissed Steven Taylor early. However, the USA were looking good at 51/1 after the powerplay. Unfortunately for them, it all went downhill thereafter as they lost their next six wickets for just 61 runs.

Roston Chase, in particular, turned the game as he claimed 3/19 in his four overs. Russell also bagged three as the USA were bundled out for 128.

The West Indies batters made a complete mockery of the run-chase. Shai Hope was simply sensational; despite playing his first match of the competition, he looked in supreme touch, hammering the ball to all parts of the ground.

Hope clubbed four boundaries and eight maximums to remain unbeaten on 82 off just 39 balls. Nicholas Pooran also continued his stellar form (27* off 12) as the Men in Maroon recorded a thumping win with 55 balls to spare.

With this loss, the USA are more or less knocked out of the tournament. They have zero points and an inferior NRR of -2.908. The West Indies, meanwhile, have jumped to second on the table. They have two points, similar to England (+0.412), but have a better NRR of +1.814.
