India confirmed a first-place finish in the 2024 T20 World Cup points table for Group 1 with a solid 24-run win against Australia. The Men in Blue have six points from three matches, with their net run rate being +2.017.

Thanks to the win against Australia, India will remain first in the 2024 T20 World Cup points table for Group 1 irrespective of what happens in the Afghanistan vs Bangladesh match tonight.

Meanwhile, Australia are reliant on Bangladesh. The Aussies have only two points from three matches in Group 1. Although they are second right now, Afghanistan can overtake them in the 2024 T20 World Cup points table for Group 1 if they beat Bangladesh even by the smallest of the margins.

Bangladesh also have an outside chance of qualifying for the semifinals. The Najmul Hossain Shanto-led outfit needs to beat Afghanistan by at least 62 runs or chase down the target within 13 overs to overtake both Australia and Afghanistan in the 2024 T20 World Cup standings.

Can Bangladesh surprise everyone by finishing 2nd in 2024 T20 World Cup points table for Group 1?

As mentioned earlier, Bangladesh also have a chance of qualifying for the semifinals. Their net run rate is -2.489 right now, and they are fourth with zero points. However, the second-placed Australia only have two points. Since Australia's net run rate is -0.331, Bangladesh need to win big against Afghanistan.

Afghanistan's equation is pretty simple. They have to beat Bangladesh by any margin to set up a semifinal clash against the undefeated South African side. Even if the match between Afghanistan and Bangladesh ends with no result, Afghanistan will progress to the semifinals.

The much-awaited Bangladesh vs Afghanistan game will start at 8.30pm local time at the Arnos Vale Ground in Kingstown. As per IST, the game will begin at 6am on June 25.
